The Aligned Index Day Trade Setup

When SPY and QQQ both develop structure pointing the same direction, the Obsidian desk treats the alignment as the cleanest intraday setup available.

What is an aligned index day trade?

An aligned index day trade occurs when SPY and QQQ both show new structure developing in the same direction at the same time. Agreement between the two largest index option chains indicates broad hedging pressure rather than a move isolated to one sector.

What makes an aligned setup stronger?

Alignment between SPY and QQQ is the base requirement, and clustering within either index strengthens the setup further. When both indexes agree on direction and at least one index shows several strikes grouped together, the Obsidian desk treats the read as a leading candidate.

What happens after a key level is reached?

Once price reaches a leading strike, that strike stops acting as the main attractor and begins acting as a reaction point instead. The Obsidian desk then looks past the reached strike toward the next structure rather than assuming the original level still pulls price.
