Reading VEX in Cipher: Dealer Zones
Vanna exposure answers a different question from gamma exposure: not where price sticks, but where dealers are forced to act regardless of what price is doing.
What does the VEX view show in Cipher?
The vanna exposure view shows the dealer zone, meaning the strikes where market makers are obliged to buy or sell as implied volatility shifts. Vanna exposure is one of the hidden mechanics that stays invisible without a terminal computing the full chain.
Why does VEX matter when GEX already shows a level?
Gamma exposure and vanna exposure can disagree at the same strike. A strike showing negative gamma exposure can still hold firmly when vanna exposure is strongly positive there, because dealers are obliged to buy at that level regardless of the gamma reading.
When should a trader prefer the VEX view?
Vanna exposure suits longer swing horizons and reveals hidden strike zones carrying heavy concentration. The Obsidian desk checks the vanna view whenever a gamma read looks evenly balanced, because an apparently unreadable gamma chart very often hides one clear and decisive vanna level underneath.
