How Cipher Handles Your Market Data
The Cipher platform is built so that the Obsidian desk cannot see a member's watchlist, positions or trading activity, because the architecture never routes that information through Obsidian infrastructure.
What market data does Obsidian store?
The Obsidian desk stores no market data. Option chains, quotes and computed positioning exist in the member's browser session for the duration of that session and are not persisted to Obsidian servers or forwarded to any third party at any point.
Can the Obsidian desk see which tickers a member watches?
No. Under the BYOK model the member's browser authenticates directly against the member's own broker account, so symbol requests never pass through Obsidian infrastructure at any point. The Obsidian desk holds account and billing records only, and holds nothing whatsoever describing a member's trading behaviour.
Why does the data privacy model matter to a trader?
A trader's watchlist is genuinely valuable information. Any vendor proxying requests necessarily builds a live record of what every subscriber is studying before those subscribers act. Removing the proxy removes that record entirely rather than merely promising not to examine the record.
Frequently asked questions
Does Obsidian sell any member data?
No. The Obsidian desk does not sell, share or monetise member data of any kind, and the BYOK architecture means the trading data most worth selling is never collected in the first place.
